The pinterest attempt of a lifetime

That title sounds way too dramatic, but it really was quite the challenge for me.  I usually outsource for my kids' birthday parties, and it's usually wonderful! This time I just wanted to try something I saw. The whole theme came from this idea I saw on pinterest, the cutest little cake that looks like an ice cream cone is melting on the top of the cake. It fit perfect with Caroline turning two and the "two scoops" of ice cream idea. So I went really slow, used box cake mix because that was easier, and made my own buttercream icing!  Here are some pics of my process for anyone who may be like me, not a baker, but want to make something special for their daughter or son!

the pinterest version had a skewer to place the ice cream ball, but that kept tearing mine apart, so I just placed it on top of the cake, and then iced around it
